Dedication to Roman Soltykewych (1909 - 1976)
In the hands of Roman Soltykewych every song became a means of teaching us about the wealth of our Ukrainian musical heritage. It was the translation of the joy and pathos of our immense history. Unerringly guided by his musical talent and profound love for the songs of his homeland, Mr. Soltykewych dedicated the last years of his life to ensure that the music of Ukraine would continue to be heard on Canadian soil.
Over 150 members of the Canadian Ukrainian Youth Association in Edmonton were guided by the influence of his personality during a decade (1966-76) of his leadership.
With his passing in November of 1976, our choir lost its founder, conductor and beloved friend. We respectfully dedicate this recording to his eternal memory.

About the CYMK Choir in Edmonton
The Canadian Ukrainian Youth Association (CYMK) Choir of Edmonton was founded in 1966 by its dynamic conductor, the late Roman Soltykewych. Over the years, the choir developed an extensive repertoire of both Ukrainian sacred and secular music, which it performed across Canada.
It's first recording of Ukrainian folk songs was released in 1969 and subsequently followed by another in 1971. The present album is the result of the choir's success at a choral festival sponsored by the Ukrainian Canadian Committee (KYK) where the choir placed first in its category.
William Zwozdesky, a former chorister and the choir's present conductor, assumed his position in December of 1975. Under his capable direction, the choir explored exciting new areas of Ukrainian choral literature. Over the years he has participated extensively in many musical organizations as a musician, arranger and conductor. Presently Mr. Zwozdesky is doing graduate studies in music theory at the University of Washington in Seattle.
